Malaria and COVID-19 Television Spot – Kenya

Breakthrough ACTION worked with the Kenyan Division of the National Malaria Programme to develop this spot that promotes malaria prevention, testing, and treatment.

The spot also reassures audiences that it is safe to go to the health facility during the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to safety precautions put in place. The spot has been broadcast regularly on four of the leading local TV stations in Kenya starting in January 2021.

    Mental Health Booklet for Teens

    Across the world, teens reported increased anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. This booklet was designed by Breakthrough ACTION Philippines for Filipino teens in response to their stated need for mental health support and resources. Teens were involved in the content selection and design, and it was reviewed by several leading Filipino mental health therapists/practitioners who work with teens.       Improving Mental Health Services in Bangladesh Through the Mental Health Gap Action Plan

      In Bangladesh, mental health challenges remain unmet due to a lack of awareness, a shortage of mental health professionals and various facilities. To address the widening gap between mental health needs and the availability of mental health care professionals, Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Child Adolescent and Family Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health worked with Breakthrough ACTION to develop a standard operating procedure for mental health and psychological support call centers. In March 2022, in consultation with the Non-Communicable Disease Control and the National Institute of Mental Health, Breakthrough ACTION organized training sessions on the mental health gap action program and the standard operating procedure, to equip doctors and counselors with mental health counseling, screening, and management skills, ensuring improved quality of mental health services that are affordable and accessible to people.

        Sierra Leone COVID-19 Big Idea of the Week Campaign

        The Big Idea of the Week delves deeper into a specific COVID-related topic. Each week, Big Idea tackles a specific area of COVID-19 and provides important information, guidelines, and messages for the public.

        Breakthrough ACTION, led by Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP), in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) National COVID-19 Emergency Response Center (NACOVERC), creates these messages. They are disseminated on the Ministry website and via the Ministry of Information and Communication’s Facebook page.

          Social Media Campaign for COVID-19 Vaccination

          Social Media campaign

          Breakthrough ACTION/JHU conducted social media activities in support of the national SIAP (Semangat Dapat Vaksinasi Lengkap (READY – To Complete the Dose ) campaign targeting the younger population using social media. The campaign motivates the audience  to increase trust in COVID-19 vaccination safety and effectiveness, with emphasizing messages on the personal risk and collective health consequences if not vaccinated.

          The activities included:

          1. Posting messages on the importance of vaccination to young families and the general public through Instagram (feeds and reels) as well as landing articles on the website.
          2. Engaging young moms and Standup Comedy to carry out off-air activities among their members with the aim to complete vaccinations.
          3. Conducting SIAP jingle choreography competition through the young moms community and the general public.
          4. Conducting stand-up comedy video competition to increase trust on COVID-19 vaccination among young people.
