Survey on Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) in the context of prevention against COVID-19 Côte d’Ivoire, Phase 3

Since the emergence of the SARS-CoV2 virus and its first detection in Côte d’Ivoire in March 2020, the country has recorded 87,891 cases and 830 deaths (November 2022). The Ministry of Health has taken various measures to reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19, including the authorization of COVID-19 vaccines AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Johnson & Johnson (J&J). With some ambitious goals to vaccinate 70% of the Ivorian population, understanding the drivers of confidence and uptake of vaccines is essential for the response to COVID-19 and achieving this goal.

Breakthrough ACTION Côte d’Ivoire conducted a three-phase household survey of knowledge, attitudes and practices to inform risk communication and community engagement.

  • All 3 phases carried out in Abidjan
  • Phase 3, conducted in Abidjan and three inland sites
  • Random sampling in clusters
  • Data collected on tablets and
  • extracted daily to be cleaned and analyzed

This is the first position paper to be published by WHO on the behavioural and social drivers (BeSD) of vaccine uptake. It summarizes the development of new tools and indicators to assess the BeSD of vaccine uptake for childhood and COVID-19 vaccination, enabling decision-makers on immunization policy, programme managers, and partners to address under-vaccination through an enhanced understanding of the underlying causes.

The Perception of COVID-19 communication in West Africa (non-Sahel): report

Since 2011, UNESCO has launched an international, regional and national intervention on Media and Information Literacy (MIL), recognizing the primary role of information and media in everyday lives. The intervention is meant to contribute to the development of media and information literacy skills and promote best practices to analyze information critically and to navigate through the overwhelming amount of news and information available.

Under this overarching framework and as part of UNESCO’s responses to the COVID-19 ‘infodemic’, UNESCO Abuja Office initiated a survey on Perception of COVID-19 Communication in West Africa (non-Sahel). The survey was developed to understand how people in some Western African countries obtain and use the Information on COVID-19 for informed decisions.
