Discrimination, Stigma and COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered social stigma and discriminatory behaviour against persons who have contracted the COVID-19 virus, those who have been in contact with such persons, as well as any person who has been perceived to have come in contact with the virus. As part of an anti-stigma campaign, this Public Service Announcement sung by Chrystal Cummins-Beckles from Barbados, was produced.

    USAID/Senegal COVID-19 Response – Lecture Pour Tous

    USAID’s Lecture Pour Tous activity helped Senegalese children continue reading during school closures due to COVID-19. Reading programs were broadcast on radio and television. Reading clubs encouraged parents to read with their children, and distance training modules supported teachers’ professional development.

          Campagne de relance de la vaccination avec des célébrités

          Des artistes de renommée nationale et internationale comme Wally Balago Seck et Baba Maal se sont engagés pour apporter leur contribution à la riposte. Chacun a consenti à produire des supports audiovisuels comportant un appel aux populations et mettant l’accent sur la sûreté, l’efficacité et la gratuité des vaccins. Ces supports sont constitués d’une capsule vidéo destinée à une diffusion TV et des réseaux sociaux, de messages audios à diffuser à travers des radios nationales et communautaires ainsi que sur les réseaux sociaux, d’une courte chanson déclinée en clip de 2 minutes et d’images destinées aux différents supports de communication.

            Une vidéo de sensibilisation sur la nécessité de se faire vacciner en utilisant un raisonnement par l’absurde pour battre en brèche les idées reçues et autres formes de rumeurs ou mauvaises croyances sur le vaccin contre la covid. C’est en réalité l’illustration des conflits internes que vivent de nombreuses personnes et qui font qu’ils hésitent à se faire vacciner.

            An awareness video on the need to get vaccinated using reductio ad absurdum to challenge received ideas and other forms of rumors or bad beliefs about the covid vaccine. It is actually an illustration of the internal conflicts that many people experience and that make them hesitate to get vaccinated.

              Une vidéo flashmob visant à sensibiliser les populations ivoiriennes sur l’importance de se faire vacciner avant que le pire n’arrive.  Dans un supermaché d’Abidjan, des personnes tombent subitement, ce qui affole la foule avant qu’elle ne se rende compte qu’il s’agit d’une mise en scène.

              A flashmob video aimed at raising awareness among Ivorian populations on the importance of getting vaccinated before the worst happens. In a supermarket in Abidjan, people suddenly fall, which panics the crowd before they realize that it is a scene.

                This video aims to encourage people who are hesitant to get vaccinated against covid19. She is played by the actors of a famous Ivorian TV “Les coups de la vie”. The essential message here is to tell people not to trust gossip and rumors and that the vaccine is effective and safe.

                  These 60-90 second video clips were produced by Breakthrough ACTION, in close collaboration with Ghana Health Service, to support the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Ghana. The videos feature the Ghana Health Services’ COVID-19 Vaccine Ambassador, Celestine Donkor, debunking common vaccine rumors and promoting uptake among the general public and segmented population such as pregnant women and youth. The videos are available in English and capture different messages on COVID-19 and vaccination.
