September 1, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm UTC+2

GENDRO & WGH logos

We have the pleasure to invite you to participate in an interactive civil society dialogue with WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on the theme “Achieving a gender transformative COVID response”, to take place on Tuesday 1 September 2:00-3:30 Central European Summer Time (GMT + 02:00). This invitation is open to all civil society members, please share this invitation with your networks.

Organized by GENDRO and Women in Global Health, this dialogue forms the first one in the series of CSO – WHO DG dialogues selected by CSOs to be organized on different topics of interest for the civil society related to COVID-19 response.

The call for proposals and the process for the review and selection of the themes for the CSO – WHO DG dialogue series was conducted by the small group of volunteer CSO representatives, based on that criteria that considered the relevancy of the issue for civil society, urgency of the matter in the context of COVID-19, validity to organize a meeting with the WHO DG, concreteness of the proposal and clarity in its follow up, as well as persuasiveness of its outline and format. Based on their review, the small group of CSO volunteers proposed the following three topics to start the series:

  • Achieving a gender transformative COVID response
  • Promoting the health and wellbeing of young people during the COVID-19 pandemic: Leveraging youth engagement in participatory governance
  • COVID-19 and social participation

The webinar will have links available in English and French. Through a dynamic, solutions-oriented dialogue session, this will be an opportunity to highlight three specific aspects of gender transformation: leadership, including in the response to COVID at local, national, regional and international levels; data, particularly strategies to ensure the collection and use of gender disaggregated data in times of COVID; and health care, with a focus on women on the frontlines. The session seeks to focus on solutions and strategies for progress, including what civil society asks of WHO and also what civil society itself can do.

As we recognize that time during the online dialogue is necessarily limited, we invite you to post your questions and comments in advance and vote on them on Slido starting from 26 August until the end of the Dialogue on 1 September 2020. The three themes around gender transformation are Leadership, Data, and Health care, and before posting your question of comment, you will need to choose which one of the themes you are contributing to (selection on the upper left corner of the Slido page).

Please find the link to Slido here.

You will need to register by your name and preferable the CSO you represent when posting your contributions.

Please find the link to connect to the webinar below. You may need to download the Zoom application. Once you have connected, you can choose your language English/ French.
