Project Batibot: Partnering with moms to talk about COVID-19 vaccines for children

Breakthrough ACTION Philippines partnered with three online communities for moms to prompt discussion around COVID-19 vaccines. BA and partners in the Philippines created social media posts and an online talk show that  addresses myths, misconceptions and misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines.

“KwentoSerye” – an online conversation with teens!

Breakthrough ACTION Philippines launches an online conversation program with teens called “KwentoSerye” (story series). This program aims to be a safe space for teens to talk about their health and well-being. The first two episodes that premiered on the I Choose #MalayaAkongMaging Facebook page focused on the teens’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The conversations revolved around how teens felt during the lockdown and when the COVID-19 vaccines for them were finally available.

BIDA Kid in Muslim Communities

Breakthrough ACTION Philippines, in partnership with the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) and UNICEF, created an adaptation of the BIDA Kid print materials to better resonate with the Muslim communities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

BIDA Kid Booklet and Leaflet

Breakthrough ACTION Philippines developed a booklet for young, school-aged children. This booklet serves as a guide for young students on their safe return to school. It provides basic information about COVID-19 and key preventive behaviors they can practice at home, in school, and in community areas.

This booklet was designed by Breakthrough ACTION Philippines for Filipino teens in response to their stated need for mental health support and resources.

Lessons Learned and Good Practices: Country-specific Case Studies on Immunization Activities during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The methodology for this report included a literature review of available documentation and research, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions with UNICEF country and regional offices and partners. The process led to a series of six case studies, which describe predominantly positive campaign experiences, documenting lessons and good practices that can inform future immunisation programmes carried out during COVID-19 or similar circumstances.

COVID-19 and Meta: Social and Behavioral Change Communication Learnings from 20 Countries

Throughout 2021, CARE launched 45 locally-led campaigns in 20 countries applying lessons learned during an eight-week training series with Meta. In the second half of 2021, participating countries built on their learnings from their first campaigns and attempted to answer new questions that arose all while creating culturally appropriate messaging to encourage the adoption of preventative behaviors and/or to build trust in the vaccine, even if it wasn’t yet available.

Using COVID-19 Trends And Impact Survey Data To Conduct Prevention And Vaccination Campaigns In The Philippines

Breakthrough ACTION, USAID’s global social and behavior change project, catalyzes social and behavior change by designing and implementing evidence-based solutions to improve health and development programs around the world. When COVID-19 emerged in late 2019, Breakthrough ACTION was already working on social and behavior change for family planning/reproductive health, malaria, HIV, and other health issues across the globe, including under the Global Health Security Agenda.

Three Insights to Help Overcome COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy

As part of the USAID-funded Breakthrough ACTION project, the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs and partner ideas42 are working with teams and governments in eight countries — Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Philippines, and Nigeria — to understand and target demand-side barriers to improve acceptance and uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine.
